The
term gourd refers to the dried pods of plants such as
squash or pumpkins and similar plants.
The gourd used for pyrography is inedible and comes in a variety of
shapes.
These gourds (when dried) are about the same hardness as plywood
and are similar in texture to pyrograph.
I am new to working with them and I find them intriguing and challenging
to do.
I am greatly indebted to "The Gourdfather" John Van Tol
for his help and advice about working with gourds.
I hope to start Pyrography on Gourds workshops with John later this
year.
