I started my journey into Leatherwork over twenty years ago and what
a rewarding journey it has been.
During that time, I have strived to learn as much as I could about
this truly wonderful craft. I guess if it was not for an amazing gentleman
by the name of Al Stohlman and his wonderful books about Leathercraft,
I doubt if there would be such a craft as we know it today.
Anyone
who has experienced his amazing instruction books would no doubt agree.
Al died in 1998 and, although he will be sadly missed, his books will
endure for an eternity.
There were other influences along the way, a wonderful oldtime saddler
in North Queensland by the name of Jim Maudsley, who taught me a lot
about handling and selecting leather and how to hand sew without tears.
Another gent and talented Leathercrafter by the name of George Bassett,
who kept me enthusiastic when ever I thought I was getting nowhere
with my craft.
The informative Leathercraft lessons ( via Make it with Leather and
The Leathercraftsman Magazines)
by Christine Stanley, Al Shelton, Rob Barr, Peter Main, Silva Fox
and many others.
They all believe, as I do, that you must share your knowledge of your
skills if you desire your craft to survive. I thank them for their
knowledge.
